In Short: We collect personal information that you provide to us.

We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us when you express an interest in obtaining information about us or our products and Services, when you participate in activities on the Services, or otherwise when you contact us.

Personal Information Provided by You. The personal information that we collect depends on the context of your interactions with us and the Services, the choices you make, and the products and features you use. The personal information we collect may include the following:
  • names
  • email addresses
  • contact preferences
  • newsletter subscription status
Sensitive Information. We do not process sensitive information.

All personal information that you provide to us must be true, complete, and accurate, and you must notify us of any changes to such personal information.

Information automatically collected

In Short: Some information — such as your Internet Protocol (IP) address and/or browser and device characteristics — is collected automatically when you visit our Services.

We automatically collect certain information when you visit, use, or navigate the Services. This information does not reveal your specific identity (like your name or contact information) but may include device and usage information, such as your IP address, browser and device characteristics, operating system, language preferences, referring URLs, device name, country, location, information about how and when you use our Services, and other technical information. This information is primarily needed to maintain the security and operation of our Services, and for our internal analytics and reporting purposes.

Like many businesses, we also collect information through cookies and similar technologies. You can find out more about this in our Cookie Notice: __________.

The information we collect includes:
  • Log and Usage Data. Log and usage data is service-related, diagnostic, usage, and performance information our servers automatically collect when you access or use our Services and which we record in log files. Depending on how you interact with us, this log data may include your IP address, device information, browser type, and settings and information about your activity in the Services (such as the date/time stamps associated with your usage, pages and files viewed, searches, and other actions you take such as which features you use), device event information (such as system activity, error reports (sometimes called "crash dumps"), and hardware settings).
  • Device Data. We collect device data such as information about your computer, phone, tablet, or other device you use to access the Services. Depending on the device used, this device data may include information such as your IP address (or proxy server), device and application identification numbers, location, browser type, hardware model, Internet service provider and/or mobile carrier, operating system, and system configuration information.
  • Location Data. We collect location data such as information about your device's location, which can be either precise or imprecise. How much information we collect depends on the type and settings of the device you use to access the Services. For example, we may use GPS and other technologies to collect geolocation data that tells us your current location (based on your IP address). You can opt out of allowing us to collect this information either by refusing access to the information or by disabling your Location setting on your device. However, if you choose to opt out, you may not be able to use certain aspects of the Services.
  • Analytics and performance data. We use Google Analytics to collect aggregated data about website traffic, content performance, and user behaviour patterns in order to improve the website and understand our audience. This data is processed by Google and subject to Google's own privacy policy.

2. HOW DO WE PROCESS YOUR INFORMATION?

In Short: We process your information to provide, improve, and administer our Services, communicate with you, for security and fraud prevention, and to comply with law. We process the personal information for the following purposes listed below. We may also process your information for other purposes only with your prior explicit consent.

We process your personal information for a variety of reasons, depending on how you interact with our Services, including:
  • To deliver and facilitate delivery of services to the user. We may process your information to provide you with the requested service.
  • To respond to user inquiries/offer support to users. We may process your information to respond to your inquiries and solve any potential issues you might have with the requested service.
  • To send administrative information to you. We may process your information to send you details about our products and services, changes to our terms and policies, and other similar information.
  • To fulfill and manage your orders. We may process your information to fulfill and manage your orders, payments, returns, and exchanges made through the Services.

  • To send you marketing and promotional communications. We may process the personal information you send to us for our marketing purposes, if this is in accordance with your marketing preferences. You can opt out of our marketing emails at any time. For more information, see "WHAT ARE YOUR PRIVACY RIGHTS?" below.
  • To identify usage trends. We may process information about how you use our Services to better understand how they are being used so we can improve them.
  • To determine the effectiveness of our marketing and promotional campaigns. We may process your information to better understand how to provide marketing and promotional campaigns that are most relevant to you.
  • To save or protect an individual's vital interest. We may process your information when necessary to save or protect an individual’s vital interest, such as to prevent harm.
  • To deliver the free Journaling Starter Kit and other digital lead magnets to new subscribers. When a user subscribes to The Slowly Letter, their email address is used to automatically deliver the free Journaling Starter Kit PDF via our email marketing platform Kit (ConvertKit). This is the primary reason a user provides their email address and the delivery of this resource is the direct fulfilment of that exchange.
  • To send the weekly Slowly Letter newsletter. Subscribers receive The Slowly Letter every Friday containing slow living content, slow study guidance, curated product recommendations, and occasional promotional information about Slowly Curated digital products. Subscribers consent to this at the point of signup and may unsubscribe at any time using the link provided in every email.
  • To deliver purchased digital products. When a user purchases a digital PDF guide through our Gumroad shop, their email address is used to confirm the transaction and deliver the purchased product. This processing is necessary to fulfil the purchase. Payment data is handled entirely by Gumroad and is not stored or processed by Slowly Curated directly.
  • To send promotional emails about new products, bundles, and seasonal offers. Subscribers on The Slowly Letter mailing list may receive occasional emails announcing new monthly digital products, quarterly bundle events, and the annual flagship course launch. These communications are sent through Kit. Subscribers can opt out at any time using the unsubscribe link in every email or by contacting hello@slowlycurated.com.
  • To tag and segment subscribers based on interests and purchase behaviour. We use Kit's tagging features to organise subscribers into groups based on how they joined the list, which emails they have opened, and whether they have purchased a product. This segmentation allows us to send more relevant content to different subscriber groups — for example sending different emails to new subscribers in the welcome sequence versus long-term subscribers. No automated decisions with legal or significant personal effects are made using this data.
  • To analyse website traffic and content performance using Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the Slowly Curated website, which blog posts attract the most traffic, where visitors come from geographically, and how they navigate the site. This data is aggregated and used solely to improve the website and content strategy. Google Analytics data is processed by Google and subject to Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
  • To track affiliate link performance and verify commissions. Links to third-party products on the Slowly Curated website and in The Slowly Letter may be affiliate links through Amazon Associates, Bookshop.org, and ShareASale. When a user clicks these links, tracking cookies record the click and any resulting purchase in order to attribute and verify affiliate commissions. Users are notified of affiliate links through our affiliate disclosure statement. Tracking is handled by the respective affiliate platforms and subject to their own privacy policies.
  • To respond to direct enquiries and provide customer support. When a user contacts Slowly Curated by email at hello@slowlycurated.com, their name and email address are used solely to respond to their enquiry. These communications are not added to any mailing list without the user's explicit consent and are retained only as long as necessary to resolve the enquiry.
  • To segment newsletter subscribers and personalise email content. We use Kit (ConvertKit) to organise subscribers into groups based on how they joined the mailing list, which emails they have engaged with, whether they are new subscribers in the welcome sequence or long-term Slowlings, and whether they have purchased a digital product. This allows us to send more relevant and useful content to different subscriber groups rather than sending identical emails to everyone regardless of their relationship with the brand.
  • To track affiliate link clicks and purchases originating from our website and newsletter. Some links on the Slowly Curated website and in The Slowly Letter are affiliate links through Amazon Associates, Bookshop.org, and ShareASale. When a user clicks one of these links, a tracking cookie is set by the affiliate platform to record the click and attribute any resulting purchase to Slowly Curated for commission purposes. This tracking is handled entirely by the respective affiliate platforms and not by Slowly Curated directly. Users are informed of affiliate links through the affiliate disclosure statement displayed on relevant blog posts and in the newsletter.
  • To analyse email campaign performance and improve newsletter content. Kit (ConvertKit) automatically tracks email open rates, click-through rates, and unsubscribe rates for every newsletter and automated email sent through the platform. We review this aggregated data to understand which content resonates most with subscribers, which subject lines encourage engagement, and which product announcements generate interest. No individual subscriber is singled out for analysis — only aggregated trends are reviewed.

3. WHAT LEGAL BASES DO WE RELY ON TO PROCESS YOUR INFORMATION?

In Short: We only process your personal information when we believe it is necessary and we have a valid legal reason (i.e., legal basis) to do so under applicable law, like with your consent, to comply with laws, to provide you with services to enter into or fulfill our contractual obligations, to protect your rights, or to fulfill our legitimate business interests.

If you are located in the EU or UK, this section applies to you.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK GDPR require us to explain the valid legal bases we rely on in order to process your personal information. As such, we may rely on the following legal bases to process your personal information:
  • Consent. We may process your information if you have given us permission (i.e., consent) to use your personal information for a specific purpose. You can withdraw your consent at any time. Learn more about withdrawing your consent.
  • Performance of a Contract. We may process your personal information when we believe it is necessary to fulfill our contractual obligations to you, including providing our Services or at your request prior to entering into a contract with you.
  • Legitimate Interests. We may process your information when we believe it is reasonably necessary to achieve our legitimate business interests and those interests do not outweigh your interests and fundamental rights and freedoms. For example, we may process your personal information for some of the purposes described in order to:
  • Send users information about special offers and discounts on our products and services
  • Analyze how our Services are used so we can improve them to engage and retain users
  • Support our marketing activities
  • In order to send subscribers content that is relevant to their interests and current stage in the slow study journey, improving the quality and value of communications, reducing irrelevant messaging, and building a more engaged and loyal subscriber community that is more likely to benefit from and purchase our digital products.
  • In order to verify and receive affiliate commissions that form a legitimate part of the Slowly Curated revenue model, enabling the brand to continue producing free content, the weekly newsletter, and affordable digital products for the slow living community. Affiliate income does not affect the price users pay for any recommended product.
  • In order to continuously improve the quality, relevance, and value of The Slowly Letter for subscribers, ensuring that the newsletter remains worth receiving and that communications respect subscribers' time and attention. Improving open and engagement rates also supports the commercial viability of the brand which enables continued free content production.
  • Legal Obligations. We may process your information where we believe it is necessary for compliance with our legal obligations, such as to cooperate with a law enforcement body or regulatory agency, exercise or defend our legal rights, or disclose your information as evidence in litigation in which we are involved.
  • Vital Interests. We may process your information where we believe it is necessary to protect your vital interests or the vital interests of a third party, such as situations involving potential threats to the safety of any person.

If you are located in Canada, this section applies to you.

We may process your information if you have given us specific permission (i.e., express consent) to use your personal information for a specific purpose, or in situations where your permission can be inferred (i.e., implied consent). You can withdraw your consent at any time.

In some exceptional cases, we may be legally permitted under applicable law to process your information without your consent, including, for example:
  • If collection is clearly in the interests of an individual and consent cannot be obtained in a timely way
  • For investigations and fraud detection and prevention
  • For business transactions provided certain conditions are met
  • If it is contained in a witness statement and the collection is necessary to assess, process, or settle an insurance claim
  • For identifying injured, ill, or deceased persons and communicating with next of kin
  • If we have reasonable grounds to believe an individual has been, is, or may be victim of financial abuse
  • If it is reasonable to expect collection and use with consent would compromise the availability or the accuracy of the information and the collection is reasonable for purposes related to investigating a breach of an agreement or a contravention of the laws of Canada or a province
  • If disclosure is required to comply with a subpoena, warrant, court order, or rules of the court relating to the production of records
  • If it was produced by an individual in the course of their employment, business, or profession and the collection is consistent with the purposes for which the information was produced
  • If the collection is solely for journalistic, artistic, or literary purposes
  • If the information is publicly available and is specified by the regulations
  • We may disclose de-identified information for approved research or statistics projects, subject to ethics oversight and confidentiality commitments

11. CONTROLS FOR DO-NOT-TRACK FEATURES

Most web browsers and some mobile operating systems and mobile applications include a Do-Not-Track ("DNT") feature or setting you can activate to signal your privacy preference not to have data about your online browsing activities monitored and collected. At this stage, no uniform technology standard for recognizing and implementing DNT signals has been finalized. As such, we do not currently respond to DNT browser signals or any other mechanism that automatically communicates your choice not to be tracked online. If a standard for online tracking is adopted that we must follow in the future, we will inform you about that practice in a revised version of this Privacy Notice.

California law requires us to let you know how we respond to web browser DNT signals. Because there currently is not an industry or legal standard for recognizing or honoring DNT signals, we do not respond to them at this time.
